TECHNICAL INFORMATION
ACOUSTIC FUNCTION

SOUND ABSORPTION
BLOCK (ATTENUATE) SOUND TRANSMISSION
SOUND ABSORPTION COEFFICIENT - The ratio between sound intensity before and after impact material.

- sound intensity is absorped by material
- each material has different sound absorption characteristics
- Sound Absorption Coefficient is measured at 6 frequency (125, 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 Hz.)
- ASTM C423
NOISE REDUCTION COEFFICIENT (NRC)

The Average of Sound Absorption Coefficient at 250,   500,   1000,    2000   Hz

If NRC > 0.4 that material is Sound Absorber

Humans can not detect an NRC value difference of about 0.05
SOUND TRANSMISSION LOSS (STL) - indicates a material's capability to attenuate sound transmittance.

-

The higher the STL value the more effective the material is decreasing sound transmittance
SOUND TRANSMISSION CLASS (STC)

-

The average of Sound Transmission Loss values indicating the capability of wall, floor or ceiling system to block sound transmittance

-

STC is measured at 16 frequencies (125 - 4000 Hz.)
Note: - STC is measured in decibel unit (dB)
DEFINITION OF CONDENSATION
CONDENSATION

-

Most air will condense when it comes in contact with a surface whose temperature is equal to dew point temperature.

-

The greater the moisture in the air is,  the greater the opportunity is for condensation to occur.
CONDENSATION PREVENTION

-

Use insulation with appropriate thermal resistance (density & thickness)

-

Use Vapor Barrier to prevent the moist air from entering the insulation

-

Use ventilation to decrease vapor accumulation
VAPOR BARRIER

A facing material whose vapor permeability is < 1 perm

" 1 perm "  = Amount of vapor 5.72 x 10-11 kg         moves through surface 1 m2 in 1 second mean while pressure difference is 1 Pa.

Usually the vapor barrier shall face the warm side.
