-
Sheet metal ducts must
be clean, dry and tightly seated at all joints and seams prior to
installation of duct wrap.
-
Duct wrap installation
shall be cut to "Stretch-Out" dimensions as provided in
instructions, and a 50 mm (2") piece of insulation removed from
the facing at the end of the piece of insulation to form an
overlapping tape flap, as shown below. Failure to provide this flap may result in
an unsatisfactory moisture vapor seal at the joint.
-
Install with facing
outside so that the tape flap overlaps insulation and faces at other
end. Insulation shall be tightly butted. If ducts are
rectangular or square, insulation should not be excessively compressed
at duct corners. Seams shall be tacked tape approximately 150 mm
(6") on center.
-
Where rectangular ducts
are 610 mm (24") in width or greater, duct wrap shall be secured
to the bottom of the sheet metal duct with mechanical fasteners spaced
450 mm (18") on center (maximum).
-
To ensure the integrity
of the facing as a vapor barrier (to prevent condensation from vapor
barrier failure), seal all seams, tears, punctures, and other
penetrations of the insulation facing with approved tape to provide a
vapor tight system.
